Transitional Dressing & Always Feeling Too Hot Or Too Cold

Posted by [email protected] on

We all did it. We all had a little moan about it being too hot, too sweaty and too humid for our unaccustomed British bodies to deal with; usually the summer season brings with it a sprinkling of warm days and a lot of rain (because what would a bank holiday or festival be without a shower or two?) but 2018 will go down as the year that all changed for the better. So many gloriously warm days and weekends filled with sunshine, but that amazing start to our season made the fall into chillier days all the more difficult to swallow. Now it already feels like the middle of Autumn and jumpers are coming out of hibernation, albeit a tad prematurely, while our feet are cosily tucked into a warm pair of boots. Admittedly though, these few months of the year always fill me with dread – as I always seem to get it wrong no matter what I wear.

Feel optimistic and reach for a summery dress and sandals? Spend the day freezing my backside off and wondering where I last put my umbrella. Look out the window and feel like it’s probably time you took a jacket? I guarantee the sun will come out to play an hour after you’ve left the house, leaving you sweating from either stubbornly wearing said jacket or lugging it around in your bag. I seem to spend the same few months a year feeling incredibly awkward and inappropriately dressed as I cling on to my summer wardrobe as long as possible before getting the winter garms out of storage; this year though, I think I’ve nailed the perfect transitional look I’ll be wearing as many times as I can get away with.

Floaty dresses with sleeves offer the best of both worlds: light and airy enough to keep you cool when the sun comes out, but covered up enough to keep your bits warm without rushing off to find a cardi. Pair this effortless item with a basket bag to keep it feeling light, or swap for a tote big enough for a light jacket and brolly when the leaves start to turn. All you need is a slip or a pair of tights for added warmth, while a biker jacket adds an extra layer of protection when the temperature really starts to drop. I’ve so much love for this leopard print number (it helps it’s totally the print of the season!) that I know I’ll be wearing it all the way to next Spring, with just a little layering to keep it seasonally appropriate.

So here’s no longer feeling too hot or too cold – in the words of Goldilocks, this makes it all ‘just right’.
